Solidarity with the Mount Allison Faculty Association

(Sudbury – February 10, 2020)

Jean-Charles Cachon and Kathleen Zinn, who represent LUFA as trustees of the CAUT Defence Fund, were in Sackville, NB on Friday, Feb. 7 to show solidarity with the Mount Allison Faculty Association, whose strike began on Feb. 3.* They also presented a cheque on LUFA’s behalf for $1,500. The Defence Fund  organizes solidarity picket visits (“Flying Pickets”) by faculty association reps from across Canada during job actions.

Founded in 1978 as a national strike fund for CAUT member unions, the Fund now includes 62 unions representing over 36,000 academics. The attached photos (taken by Zinn) show the picketers marching through the streets of Sackville on a bitterly cold day, and Cachon (with Mount Allison Faculty Association president Matt Litvak) presenting a giant-size cheque from the Fund to the Mount Allison membership.

*Update: We received word late on Saturday that a tentative settlement was reached!
